E-commerce and retail solutions.
Puffin One builds software for people who sell things — online, in store, or both. We work on the unglamorous end of retail: what a product actually costs, what an order actually earns, and what the stock on your shelves is really worth.
Our first product is Puffin Analytics, a profit-reporting platform for e-commerce stores.
What Puffin Analytics is
A profit-reporting tool for online stores. It reads the data you already have — orders, products, inventory, ad spend and site traffic — and reports margin instead of revenue, down to a single product, campaign, country or day.
Revenue dashboards are easy to come by. They tend to stop before the costs. Puffin Analytics carries cost of goods, shipping, payment fees and advertising all the way through, so the number at the bottom of a report is the number your business actually keeps.
What you can do with it
- Build a report from any angle
- Group and filter orders by product, variant, collection, country, channel, delivery method, customer type or date, then save the report and come back to it.
- Read prepared dashboards
- Profit and loss, customer type performance, product views, session traffic, sensitivity analysis, lifetime value and creative performance — each built from the same figures as your own reports.
- See stock as money
- Inventory on hand valued at your real cost, with cover, movement and lost demand where something sold out.
- Judge campaigns and creatives on margin
- Ad spend from your Google and Meta accounts, down to the individual ad, set against the contribution margin it produced rather than the revenue it touched.
- Follow customers over time
- Cohorts, lifetime value and how long it takes acquisition spend to pay itself back.
What it connects to
You connect the accounts you want to use. Every connection reads; only one can write, and only if you ask it to.
- Shopify — orders, refunds, products, inventory, locations and discounts. Read-only
- Magento — orders, credit memos, products and stock, over a token you supply. Read-only
- Google Ads — campaign, ad group, ad and asset spend and performance. Reports only
- Google Analytics 4 — session and product-view counts. Read-only
- Google Sheets — the sheets you nominate, for product cost, shipping rates and other figures that live nowhere else. Read-only
- Meta — ad account spend, performance and creatives, and your product catalogues. Read, plus one write
The one thing we can write. Puffin Analytics can push the products matched by one of your reports into a Meta product set, so a catalogue campaign can target exactly those products. It writes a product set’s name and its list of product identifiers, nothing else — never a campaign, budget, ad or creative.
It happens only when you create a rule that asks for it, and only if your Meta connection was granted catalogue permission. No other part of the product writes to any connected account.
What we do not collect
Margin analysis does not need to know who bought anything, so we do not keep it. Shopper names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, dates of birth, national identifiers and payment card details are not fetched from your store and not stored. Where a platform hands us a whole order record we cannot narrow, everything outside a fixed keep-list is discarded before it is written down.
To tell a returning customer from a new one we keep one identifier per shopper: your store’s own customer id, or, for a guest checkout, a keyed hash of the email that cannot be reversed and does not match across stores. The country an order shipped to is kept; the address is not.
The privacy policy sets out exactly what is held, what is discarded, and how each of those rules is enforced in the software rather than promised.
Getting an account
Puffin Analytics is operated for named merchants rather than sold by self-service sign-up. Accounts are created by us at your request. To ask about access, write to [[SUPPORT_EMAIL]].
